Cannons Select Lacrosse is proud to announce that Coach Jason Childs – Head Coach at DIII St. Mary’s College of Maryland – has joined the Cannons to direct the Cannons High School Program. Coach Childs will be the link between our high school players, parents, and college coaches in college recruitment, in supporting the development of top caliber players in Southern Maryland, and in helping us create an offseason high school program with an affordable price structure. With the depth of talent already in our area, we hope to produce a hotbed of lacrosse close to home and to continue to send colleges great young men as well as great lacrosse players.
In addition to Coach Childs joining our program, we have been working with several local high school programs to create unity in offseason play / recruitment and to offer the opportunity for the best players in our area to play together. Coach Kerwin of Huntingtown, Coach Casalino of Northern, and Coach Bayer of La Plata are actively involved in this joint venture. We hope to get more High School programs and coaches on board to work together to produce the top lacrosse players in Southern Maryland.
Established as a High School Club program in 2007, Cannons Select Lacrosse has continued as the premier select lacrosse program in Southern Maryland, producing top caliber players who are currently impacting college teams at the DI, DII, and DIII levels. In addition, the Cannons have brought top names to Southern Maryland - such as the Thompson Brothers, Paul Rabil, Chris Mattes of the Faceoff Academy, and Kyle Dixon - to work alongside our players. Next week the Cannons will host a shooting clinic featuring Chesapeake Bayhawks player, Myles Jones. (HS spaces still available for registration)
With the college recruiting landscape changing every year, with new tournaments promising better visibility and scholarships, and with highlight events such as Brine, Under Armour, Blue Chip, and Freestate continuing to call themselves THE premier event, our players and parents are confused where best to focus their time and resources. The Cannons felt it was time to bring an experienced college coach into our program to help train our players and to guide our players into college programs that will best fit both their academic and lacrosse needs.
There will be no tryouts for our Cannons fall high school program. Coach Childs is reviewing our previous Cannons rosters and working with the local high school coaches mentioned to put together an invitation list of players for this fall. Invites will be emailed by August 1. Our fall teams are open to players from all HS schools, even if you have not been a Cannon in the past, so if you are interested in our fall HS program and want to be sure you are considered for one of our teams, click on the link below.
We are excited about our Cannons high school program and look forward to continuing to place our players not only on college lacrosse teams, but in college programs that support their personal and academic needs. It is a great time to be a Cannon! We hope you will join us! More details will follow over the next few weeks....
